Exploration Fund

Sponsor: The Explorers Club

Amount: Up to $1,200

Important: The Exploration Fund of The Explorers Club provides grants in support of exploration and field research. Grants in amounts up to $1,200 are made primarily to graduate students. Applicants do not have to be members of The Explorers Club and do not have to reside in the United States to qualify for an award.


Mensa Education & Research Foundation College Scholarship

Sponsor: Mensa Education and Research Foundation

Important: The scholarship process begins during the first week of September and ends with the scholarship application deadline of January 15. No application forms are available at any other time.

Qualifications:

  1. The applicant must currently be a resident of a participating American Mensa Local Group's area.
  2. The applicant must be enrolled in a degree program in an accredited U.S. institution of higher learning during the academic year following the application date.
  3. The applicant must submit an application and essay explaining their academic and/or vocational goals.


Sallie Mae Fund Unmet Need Scholarship Program

Sponsor: The Sallie Mae Fund
Amount: $1,000-$3,800

Qualifications:

  1. Open to families with a combined income of $30,000 or less, this program is intended to supplement financial aid packages that fall more than $1,000 short of students' financial need. This scholarship is not designed as a substitute for aid provided by an institution.
  2. The program is open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents who are accepted or enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at approved, accredited institutions.
  3. Students must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) to be eligible to apply.


USA Funds Access to Education Scholarships

Qualifications:

  1. Students who plan to enroll or are enrolled in full- or half-time undergraduate or full-time graduate- or professional-degree coursework at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational/technical school. GED recipients also are eligible.
  2. Have an annual adjusted gross family income of $35,000 or less, as documented on a 2006 federal 1040 income-tax return on which the applicant is claimed as a federal tax exemption. 
  3. Program is open to U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens. Not currently in default on a federal education loan.


Environment & Community

United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Science to Achieve Results (STAR) and Graduate Research Opportunities (GRO) Fellowships

Sponsor: US Environmental Protection Agency

Amount: Up to $37,000

Qualifications:

  1. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are pursuing a master's or doctoral degree.
  2. Students do not need to be enrolled in or formally accepted to a full-time graduate program at the time they apply for a fellowship, but proof of enrollment or acceptance must be produced prior to the award of the fellowship.
  3. Students who have completed more than one year in a master's program or four years in a doctoral program are not eligible.  Students enrolled in a master's program, however, may apply for a doctoral fellowship.


Annie’s Environmental Studies Scholarship Program

Sponsor: Annie’s Homegrown
Amount: $1,000

Important: In striving to be an ethically, socially and environmentally conscious business, Annie's will award at least $25,000 (25 awards of 1,000 each) to environmental stewards this year.


Budweiser Conservation Scholarship Program

Sponsor: Anheuser-Busch and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation
Amount: $10,000

Qualifications:

  1. To be eligible for consideration, a student must be a United States citizen at least 21 years of age and enrolled in an accredited institution of higher education in the United States pursuing a graduate or undergraduate degree (sophomores and juniors in the current academic year only) in environmental science, natural resource management, biology, public policy, geography, political science or related disciplines.
  2. Recipients are eligible for one year of scholarship support.

Echoing Green Fellowship

Amount: $60,000-$90.000

Open to emerging social innovators who have an individual project that tackles seemingly unsolvable social challenges. You must be at least 18 years old to qualify for this award. Your project must be original, independent, autonomous, and in a start-up phase. The plan must also result in a sustainable organization. Applicants must make a full-time commitment to the project's development for two years. Applicants also do not need to be U.S. citizens.

The GCA Fellowship In Ecological Restoration

Amount: $8,000

SUPPORTS specialized graduate study and research in ecological restoration, the active healing of the land, at an accredited university in the United States.

The goal of this fellowship is to support research that will advance knowledge and increase the numbers of scientists in this important field. The proposed study should conform to the Society of Ecological RestorationÕs definition of ecological restoration: ÒThe process of assisting the recovery and management of ecological integrity [which] includes a critical range of variability in biodiversity, ecological processes and structures, regional and historical context, and sustainable cultural practices.Ó


Kodak American Greenways Grants Program

Grants may be used for activities such as mapping, ecological assessments, surveying, conferences, and design activities; developing brochures, interpretative displays, audio-visual productions, or public opinion surveys; hiring consultants, incorporating land trusts, building a foot bridge, planning a bike path, or other creative projects. In general, grants can be used for all appropriate expenses needed to complete a greenway project, including planning, technical assistance, legal, and other costs.

Awards will primarily go to local, regional, or statewide nonprofit organizations. Although public agencies may also apply, community organizations will receive preference.


Lindbergh Grant

Mazamas Graduate Student Research Grant

The Mazamas Graduate Research Stipends are intended to help graduate students cover the travel and per diem costs of conducting masterÕs thesis or doctoral dissertation research. Mazamas is a program dedicated to the exploration and preservation of mountain environments in the Pacific Northwest.


National Network for Environmental Studies Fellowship Program

This fellowship is available to provide students with practical research opportunities and experiences. Research fellowships are available in environmental policy, regulations, and law; environmental management and administration; environmental science; public relations and communications; and computer programming and development. Fellowships are available to undergraduate and graduate students.


National Wildlife Federation's Campus Ecology Fellowships

Amount: $2,000 stipend + support for implementation

NWF Campus Ecology Fellows confront global warming on their individual campuses by committing to reduce net emissions on campus by 30% by 2020, approximately 2% per year. Fellows also help to educate and engage the campus community on global warming impacts and solutions.

In addition to joining the national network of current and alumni NWF Campus Ecology Fellows, students also receive a modest grant, project support, recognition of their accomplishments and other perks. Campus and community members benefit from the fellow's assistance with the research, design, and implementation of projects that produce measurable results to help educate on global warming impacts and solutions.


Windstar Environmental Studies Scholarship Program

Qualifications:

  1. The applicant must be a U.S. student enrolled in an accredited U.S. college or university Environmental Studies or Environmental Engineering Program. 
  2. Undergraduates must be entering their junior or senior year of college. 
  3. Graduate students must be entering their second year of graduate school. 
  4. The applicant shall have a college GPA of 3.0 or better in his or her major field.


Management

George A. Nielsen Public Investor Scholarship

Sponsor: Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada

Amount: $5,000

Qualifications:

  1. The George A. Nielsen Public Investor Scholarship is available for award to an employee of a local government or other public entity who is enrolled or plans to enroll in an undergraduate or graduate program in public administration, finance, business administration or a related field. 
  2. Applicant must be employed at least one year by a state, local government or other public entity;
  3. Obtain a recommendation by your employer;
  4. Be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in public administration, finance or business administration before funds are awarded;
  5. Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada.

Global Solutions Flash Movie Contest

Important: Citizens for Global Solutions is holding a contest for students, budding artists, multi-media designers, and activists who are interested in making some cool flash videos.  The top contenders will be published on our website for voting and the winners will get cash! We're looking for short flash movies that can inspire, amuse and activate people out there who believe a better world is possible.


Video Contest for College Students

Sponsor: The Christophers

Amount: $100-$3,000

Important: College students are invited to interpret the Christopher belief that “ONE PERSON CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE” in a short film of five minutes or less. Winning entries will be aired on a special edition of the internationally-syndicated television series Christopher Closeup. In addition, winners will receive the following cash awards: First Prize — $3,000 Second Prize — $2,000 Third Prize — $1,000 5 Honorable Mention Prizes of $100 each Entrants must be currently enrolled in and attending a graduate or undergraduate program at a college or university. Entries will be judged on overall impact, effectiveness of conveying theme, artistic merit and technical proficiency. A Blue Ribbon Jury comprised of representatives from the media, academia and The Christophers’ Board of Directors will make the final selection of winners. Judges’ decisions are final.

Qualifications:

  1. Entries can express this theme in any genre or shooting format, but must be submitted on standard, full-sized NTSC-format VHS tape or as Region 1 or regionless DVDs.
  2. Entries over five minutes long will not be considered. 


Women

Business and Professional Women's Founcation Career Advancement Scholarship Program

Sponsor: Business and Professional Women's (BPW) Foundation

Amount: $500-$2,500

Important: The BPW Foundation established the Career Advancement Scholarship Program in 1969 to provide financial assistance to disadvantaged women seeking to further their education. Scholarships are provided to women who wish to advance in their careers, or are soon to enter or re-enter the workforce.

Qualifications:

  1. Applicants must be women
  2. Over 25 years old
  3. A U.S. citizen or U.S. National
  4. Demonstrate financial need
  5. Demonstrate clear career plans.


Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation for Low-Income Women and Children

Sponsor: Patsy Takemoto Mink Foundation

Amount: Up to $2,000

Qualifications:

  1. Applicant must be a woman
  2. At least 17 years of age
  3. Must be a mother, with minor children
  4. Must be enrolled in a skills training, ESL, or GED program; or pursuing a technical/vocational degree, an associate's degree, a first bachelor's degree, or a professional/master's/doctoral degree.
  5. Applicant must be low-income (annual family income less than $16,000 for a family of 2; $20,000 for a family of 3; $24,000 for a family of 4).


International Study Abroad

Blakemore Language Grants for Advanced Asian Language Study

Sponsor: Blakemore Foundation

Deadline: The next postmark deadline for applications will be December 30, 2007.  Blakemore Freeman Fellowships fund a year of advanced study of an Asian language in Asia for American citizens and permanent residents of the United States who have a college degree and who plan to use an Asian language in their careers. 

Qualifications:

J. William Fulbright Program
